Abkhazian President Bzhania has agreed to resign

Abkhazian President Aslan Bzhania agreed to resign after reaching agreements with the opposition.

Vice President Badra Gunba will become the interim head of the republic.

Bzhania made the decision to resign after negotiations between the authorities and the opposition, as reported by his press service on the Telegram channel.

The report says that Bzhania is leaving his post in order to maintain order in the country.

However, he set a condition that the protesters must vacate the seized buildings in Sukhum by November 19. If this does not happen, the resignation statement will be withdrawn.

Vice President Badra Gunba will become the interim head of the republic. He will dismiss Prime Minister Alexander Ankvab and appoint Valery Bganba, who was Prime Minister in 2018–2020.

The ministers will continue to work until a new president is elected in Abkhazia.

Bzhania is resigning in accordance with the agreements reached in order to stabilize the situation in the country.
