The Supreme Court has come up with a proposal regarding people who serve in the military.

The agency believes that this category of citizens can be exempted from criminal liability.

This proposal was submitted to the State Duma, RIA Novosti reports.

The explanatory note to the bill specifies that citizens who have been called up to the Russian Armed Forces or are sent to serve under contract may be granted the opportunity to be exempt from criminal prosecution.

Another category of Russian citizens who may be affected by the relaxation are mobilized men.

If the bill is passed, a similar legal mechanism could eventually be extended to convicts who have already been sentenced, but whose court verdict has not yet entered into legal force.

Also, criminal prosecution may be terminated in relation to those who filed an appeal against the sentence.

Let us recall that currently, criminal proceedings against those who serve in the RF Armed Forces are only suspended for the duration of their service.
