Salo is a product that is a frequent guest on Russian tables.
Sometimes it may seem that lard can be stored in the freezer for almost an eternity, but this is just a misconception.
We figure out how to actually store lard and why many people make mistakes in this regard.
How to store lard
Let's start with the fact that the shelf life of lard, even in the freezer, is very limited.
Salted lard should be stored for no more than two months. Smoked lard will retain its properties a little longer and can be stored in the freezer for about three months.
A product that is stored longer risks losing all its taste and texture and becoming unusable.
As for the storage method itself, freezing salted lard is preferable to freezing raw. Firstly, before freezing, the lard should be placed in a paper bag, and secondly, each side of the piece should be thoroughly treated with salt so that it does not spoil.
