It’s easy to get lost among the abundance of fermented milk products in the market and in the store.

It is especially unpleasant to discover later that the purchased product is of poor quality.

To avoid getting into trouble again, it is better to check the quality of the sour cream immediately after purchase.

How to check the quality of sour cream

Even without specialized knowledge and tools, you can at least determine the presence of harmful impurities in a fermented milk product.

Let's start with the fact that real sour cream is diluted with hot water until it has a uniform consistency. Therefore, if the product you bought breaks up into flakes or falls in lumps, this is a reason to think about its quality.

So, the following sign will indicate the presence of palm oil in sour cream. Leave the product on the table at room temperature for at least 8 hours.

If this harmful impurity is present in fermented milk products, then the product you buy will not change its consistency and smell, and a yellow film will appear on the surface of the sour cream.

You can use iodine to determine whether a product contains starch. To do this, simply drop the antiseptic into sour cream and wait. A quality product will not change the color of the iodine, but sour cream with starch will turn gray.
