The issue of taking care of safety while traveling has now come to the fore - but it is worth keeping in mind that during vacation we also need to take care of the safety of our home!
How can you effectively secure your property before leaving so that you don’t have any unpleasant surprises upon your return?
Check the doors and windows
This is a must, because according to police statistics, about 80% of burglaries of houses and apartments occur through windows or balcony doors. Don't make it easy for thieves!
Make sure everything is tightly closed, and if you have the opportunity, use blinds, roller shutters. Try to make sure your valuables are not visible from the outside.
Remember also that tightly closing windows (even dormer windows) are protection not only against burglary, but also against the influence of adverse weather conditions, such as gusty winds and heavy rains.
Turn off water, gas and electricity
This is a step that will protect your home from any dangerous - although actually very rare - accidents.
If you don't want to find your apartment flooded with water after returning from vacation, turn off the water supply. This way, even if the installation breaks down, nothing bad will happen.
Do the same with gas, which can have dire consequences if it leaks. Also, remember to unplug any devices that don’t require power while you’re away. This will minimize the risk of short circuits and damage that can be caused by electrical discharges during a thunderstorm.
Effectively scare off a robber
Don't let your home look like easy prey for burglars. Despite appearances, thieves can be effectively discouraged.
The first step, of course, is to arm the alarm. Modern smart home solutions allow you to integrate it with your smartphone so you can regularly monitor the situation.
The system may also include cameras, the appearance of which should significantly disrupt the plans of robbers (although this seems absurd, sometimes only dummy devices are enough).
Home lighting works in a similar way, making thieves doubt whether the property is truly abandoned.
It is also worth trying the presence simulation function - a mechanism that can temporarily turn on and off lights, a TV or a radio in the apartment.
Remember that burglary is rarely a spontaneous decision by a thief. Usually, preparation for the task takes a lot of time, including following patterns and drawing up a detailed plan of action.
So don't make his job easier by, for example, confirming your absence by bragging about your vacation on social media.
You can post photos from your vacation after you return.
Ask your neighbor for help
If you don't want to invest in modern technology, good relations with your neighbors are enough! Before leaving, let them know that you plan to be away and ask them to look after the property - from time to time, of course.
A trusted person will always be able to react to any problems in a timely manner, and their visits to your home can additionally scare away unwanted guests. Besides, you need someone to water the flowers, right?
Insure your home
All of the above precautions will reduce the risk of unpleasant surprises to almost zero, but it is better to be safe than sorry.
Statistics show that almost 40% of the country's residents have experienced events such as a fire, flood or robbery at least once in their lives.
So if, despite everything, such a situation arises during your absence, it is good to have a property insurance policy.
Check his records before you leave - if you don't meet all the requirements, you may not receive compensation.
Take care of your peaceful rest!
Everyone deserves a good rest, and nothing spoils it more than the fear of the negative consequences of your temporary absence from home.
Therefore, it is worthwhile to properly prepare your property and protect it from both robbers and “unforeseen” incidents that can be easily prevented. After all, how to relax, only with a calm head.
