Clean and fresh curtains are the key to comfort and beauty of any interior.
However, over time they inevitably accumulate dust, absorb odors and lose their original freshness.
Washing curtains is not the easiest task, but it is quite feasible even at home. Following a number of recommendations, you can return the curtains to cleanliness and shine without damaging delicate fabrics.
Determine the type of fabric
Before you start washing, you need to determine the type of fabric the curtains are made of. This will determine the choice of washing mode and detergent.
Cotton, linen and synthetic curtains are generally machine washable.
Silk, velvet, organza and other delicate materials require a more careful approach – hand washing or professional cleaning.
Preparing curtains for washing
Before washing, curtains must be removed from the curtain rod and carefully inspected for heavy soiling.
Stains from food, drinks or traces of insect activity are best pre-treated with a stain remover or soaked in a soap solution. It is important to choose a product suitable for the given type of fabric.
Selecting a washing mode
Machine wash curtains on a delicate cycle using liquid detergent. Powder may leave stains on the fabric, especially on dark curtains.
The water temperature should not exceed 30-40 degrees to avoid shrinkage and deformation of the fabric. It is better to turn off the spin or set it to the minimum value.
Drying and ironing curtains
After washing, the curtains should be carefully removed from the machine, straightened and hung to dry in a well-ventilated area, avoiding direct sunlight.
Curtains should be ironed slightly damp, using the appropriate iron setting for the type of fabric.
