Wet wipes may contain substances that are harmful to health.

This was reported by Andrey Dorokhov, associate professor of the A.N. Reformatsky Department of Inorganic Chemistry at the Russian Technical University MIREA.

The chemist said that one of the dangerous components of the impregnation is methylisothiazolinone. It is used as a preservative that prevents the growth of bacteria and fungi. This is reported by "Lenta.ru" .

According to Doohov, this substance can cause allergies in children and people with sensitive skin.

Regular exposure may cause rash and dermatitis.

Another common ingredient is the preservative phenoxyethanol. It can irritate the skin, eyes, and cause eczema.

Parabens are also often used in wet wipes. They can cause hormonal disruptions and allergic reactions.

According to the expert, the impregnation also contains alcohols, which dry out the skin, disrupt its barrier function and increase the risk of infections.

Also, triclosan, an antimicrobial component, can negatively affect the endocrine system and destroy the skin’s natural protective barrier.

The expert advises to carefully study the composition of wet wipes before purchasing and avoid using them regularly.
