Woman convicted in Omsk for poisoning 22 children

In Omsk, a court has sentenced a 64-year-old woman accused of mass poisoning of children.

22 underage participants in the competition were poisoned between June 23 and 24, 2023.

The children, who had come to Omsk for a beach handball competition, suddenly fell ill after eating food prepared by the accused, TASS reports.

The investigation established that the woman, being a carrier of the Norovirus RNA genotype 2 virus, prepared food for them in violation of sanitary standards.

Several children were diagnosed with minor health problems.

The court sentenced the accused to six months of restricted freedom.

The woman, who pleaded guilty, was convicted under Article 236 of the Russian Criminal Code for violating sanitary standards that led to mass illness of people.
