A St. Petersburg resident died while on holiday in a country popular with Russian tourists.
The press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Abkhazia reported this on Wednesday, September 11.
A resident of St. Petersburg came to Gagra for a vacation. On September 8, he went swimming and drowned, the Emergencies Ministry website says.
The body of a Russian citizen born in 1968 was found on the third day of the search. It was delivered to the Gagra hospital morgue.
In addition, another Russian citizen is being sought in Abkhazia. The Russian worked in a local forestry enterprise and disappeared in the vicinity of the village of Azhara in the Gulripsh district.
Rescuers said that the mountain range and the bed of the Mramba River were explored, but the search yielded no results.
Abkhazia is among the top most popular holiday destinations among Russians. The number of bookings for the summer of 2024 exceeded the figures for 2023 three times.
Türkiye, Thailand, UAE, Greece, Egypt, Vietnam, Cyprus, Malaysia, and the Maldives are also in demand.
