Two close associates of former Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov died on Monday, July 8.
The cause of death of the head of the state examination department of the Ministry of Defense Magomed Khandayev and businessman Igor Kotelnikov has not been reported.
Both victims were accused of bribing department employees, writes RBC .
According to Eva Merkacheva, a member of the presidential council on human rights, Kotelnikov became ill in a punishment cell in a Moscow pretrial detention center.
She emphasized that there have been cases of death in these punishment cells and that the conditions there are poor.
The investigation considers Kotelnikov to be an intermediary who took kickbacks for organizing profitable contracts with the Russian Ministry of Defense for entrepreneurs.
Khandayev was presumably subordinate to Ivanov, who was arrested in connection with a case of receiving a bribe on an especially large scale.
