A supersonic missile-carrying bomber crashed in the Irkutsk region.
The information about the Tu-22M3 crash was confirmed by the press service of the Russian Ministry of Defense.
The incident occurred on Thursday, August 15, near Irkutsk. A scheduled bomber flight was being carried out there, RIA Novosti reports.
During it, the plane crashed. The aircraft crashed in an uninhabited area, which allowed avoiding civilian casualties and destruction.
The crew managed to eject. The defense department reported that the lives of the servicemen were not in danger.
Experts are yet to determine the exact cause of the incident. At this stage, the dominant version is a technical malfunction.
The Tu-22M3 is a modified version of the Tu-22M, which was used by the USSR and Russia. This version has been in service since the 1980s. This aircraft is capable of carrying nuclear weapons.
