Even before entering Kazakhstan's airspace, the Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) plane's control systems failed and the elevator stopped working.
The pilots lost the ability to consistently control the course and altitude of the flight.
In addition, an oxygen tank exploded on board.
This caused some passengers to lose consciousness.
Resuscitation vehicles were requested for them.
The head of the Ministry of Transport added that the plane attempted to land twice.
Due to equipment failure, the aircraft was gaining and losing altitude erratically and could not maintain its course.
At 11:28, contact with the plane was lost and soon the plane crashed into the ground.
Immediately after this, rescuers and medics left for the scene of the emergency, and the evacuation of passengers began.
Previously, it was reported that the AZAL aircraft underwent a full technical inspection in mid-October 2024.
