It has been established how the passengers of the superyacht that sank off the coast of Italy died.
Pathologists continue to work with the bodies of the victims of the maritime disaster that occurred on August 21 off the island of Sicily.
Experts have found that the victims were still alive for some time after the crash, writes the publication La Republica .
The passengers found themselves in a so-called air bubble and died of suffocation after some time.
This air bubble formed after the Bayesian capsized and sank, creating conditions that were critically short of air.
Thus, the passengers did not die from drowning, but from suffocation. They sank to the bottom of the sea (depth 57 m) together with the yacht and in panic gasped for air, which was becoming less and less.
Divers later brought their bodies to the surface. Autopsies of some of them have yet to be performed.
A total of seven people died, wealthy individuals and their families who had boarded the superyacht at the invitation of multimillionaire Michael Lynch.
He and his 18-year-old daughter were among the victims of the tragedy. The businessman's wife and 14 other passengers managed to escape.
