Russian man's head crushed by motorboat propeller while swimming

Russian doctors have saved an elderly swimmer who was hospitalized with severe head injuries.

The incident took place in Surgut. The details were reported by the press service of the Surgut Traumatology Hospital on its Telegram channel.

A 72-year-old Russian was swimming in the reservoir of the State District Power Plant. A motorboat was moving at high speed in that area.

The propeller of its engine struck an elderly swimmer and caused multiple injuries. The victim was pulled from the water and urgently hospitalized.

Doctors diagnosed a number of injuries. The most severe of them were related to the head: open penetrating TBI with damage to the dura mater, a fracture of the jaw and ethmoid bone.

Surgeons spent several hours saving the Russian. Doctors removed bone fragments and restored the integrity of the brain membrane and skin.

After the incident, the pensioner spent a week in intensive care, and then another three weeks in the neurosurgery department. Then the patient was discharged for outpatient treatment.
