A former engineer fell for a scam.
Another victim of fraudsters was a 63-year-old resident of Novovoronezh.
The Russian previously worked at one of the city's large enterprises, according to the website of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Voronezh Region.
One day, a pensioner received a call from a man who introduced himself as his former boss.
The man was told that he should prepare to be checked for involvement in extremism, since money was allegedly transferred from his account to an unfriendly country.
Then the Russian was contacted by an "FSB officer". He said that the ex-engineer's bank accounts were in danger - the funds needed to be cashed out immediately and handed over to the operatives until the situation was resolved.
The pensioner transferred small amounts to the fraudsters’ accounts, and cashed out 16 million and 17 million rubles and began to wait for the courier.
The swindlers' henchman came and said the code word: "Autumn." Hearing it, the man gave the courier all the cash.
The police reported that the total amount of damage amounted to almost 44.5 million rubles.
