The Ironman tournament is held in three stages: first a 3.86 km swim, then a 180 km bike ride and then a 42.195 km marathon.
Despite all the efforts of the ambulance doctors, the athlete died in the car on the way to the hospital.
The competition organizers expressed their sincere support to the Russian woman’s family and friends.
Details of the tragedy are not being disclosed out of respect for the athlete and her family.
