Passenger plane flying to Chechnya crashes in Kazakhstan

An airliner crashed at the airport in the Kazakh city of Aktau.

Flight J2 8243 was operated by an Embraer aircraft owned by Azerbaijan Airlines.

According to information from the airport, the plane was en route from Baku, Azerbaijan, to Grozny, Chechnya, the RIA Novosti article emphasizes.

It is still unknown how many passengers might have been on board.

The plane from Baku was supposed to land at the Chechen airport at 8:20 Moscow time, but due to fog it was redirected to Makhachkala and then to Aktau.

The plane had a capacity of about 100 people, and there could have been more than 60 passengers and up to 5 crew members on board.

The Ministry of Health reports six survivors who are in serious condition.

According to one version, the plane crash could have been caused by a collision with a flock of birds.

The Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan confirmed that a special investigation is being conducted in connection with the plane crash.
