The Commissioner for Children's Rights in Bashkiria, Olga Panchikhina, stated that the parents of the children rescued in Ufa did not know about the torture carried out against minors.
As Panchikhina explained, the parents of the victims thought that their children would be taught the Koran.
The Ombudsman noted: “Among the rescued minors there are people from families who are in Russia illegally,” as reported by TASS .
The official noted that the parents of the children found locked in a rented apartment in Ufa had no idea about such a tragic outcome of events.
Details of the incident
Russian investigative bodies previously reported that 16 children aged 4 to 16 were found in captivity in a rented apartment in Ufa.
One of the minors once managed to escape from captivity and call for help.
The police quickly went to the address indicated by the child and established that two Tajik citizens were criminally holding the children locked up.
Criminal cases have been initiated against the detainees. Preventive measures are being selected.
