Four-time Olympic cross-country skiing champion Raisa Smetanina was admitted to intensive care.

A Russian athlete was taken to hospital with a stroke.

The head of the Ski Racing Federation of the Komi Republic, Konstantin Sobyanin, told RIA Novosti about Smetanina’s condition.

She is in the Syktyvkar hospital with a stroke,” he added.

The Russian skier was taken to intensive care in stable condition.

According to Sobyanin, doctors are most likely in no hurry to make predictions.

The 72-year-old athlete's condition was stabilized in intensive care, and doctors are continuing treatment.

Smetanina is the Olympic champion at the Innsbruck Olympics in 1976, the Lake Placid Olympics in 1980 and the Albertville Olympics in 1992.

She is a four-time world champion and the first athlete in history to win 10 medals at the Winter Games.
