The St. Petersburg police have come under investigation by the Russian Investigative Committee after an incident involving taxi drivers and activists.
The head of the department, Alexander Bastrykin, took the situation under personal control, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation reported on its Telegram channel.
We are talking about the detention of activists at the site of a “showdown” between taxi drivers on Komendantsky Prospekt in St. Petersburg.
A criminal case has been opened on the fact of the incident. As part of the investigation, the Investigative Committee decided to conduct an investigation into the city's law enforcement officers.
They will be checked for patronage of St. Petersburg taxi drivers. In addition, investigators will check whether private carriers operate legally and whether their drivers are legally in the Russian Federation.
Searches and investigative actions are being conducted in several police departments in St. Petersburg.
Bastrykin ordered that he be provided with a daily report on the progress of the work, within the framework of which all the circumstances of the case would be established.
"Showdowns" of St. Petersburg taxi drivers
On Monday, August 19, another conflict between taxi drivers occurred on Komendantsky Prospekt. It concerned competition in the transportation sector. Migrants took part in the "showdown".
Members of the public organization "Russian Community" arrived at the scene to sort out what was happening.
Soon the police arrived and detained the activists who were trying to find out why a group of foreigners was preventing Russians from working as taxi drivers.
