58-year-old German man uses camper van to smuggle gold

Details were reported on Monday, August 26, on the Telegram channel of the Federal Customs Service (FCS) of Russia.

A German citizen attempted to import 13 kg of gold in the form of bars hidden in a mobile home.

As part of the preliminary customs declaration (PCD), the man indicated only the vehicle.

Then an inspection and screening complex (ISC) of activities was carried out. During the scanning, rectangular metal briquettes were noticed.

Smaller bars were found in the luggage among personal belongings. In total, 21 bars of gold of the highest standard were found. The value of the batch was estimated at more than 90 million rubles.

A criminal case has been opened against a German citizen. For gold smuggling, the man faces up to 5 years in prison and a fine of up to 1 million rubles.
