A serious accident occurred on the federal highway M-12 "Vostok" in the Nizhny Novgorod region.
The accident occurred on Sunday afternoon, September 1, near the town of Pashinsky.
A minivan was involved in the accident, TASS reports. The vehicle was traveling from the border of Kazakhstan towards Moscow.
At the 357th kilometer of the highway, the driver lost control. The car crashed into a guardrail at speed and then overturned.
According to the regional Ministry of Health, eight people died and the same number were injured. One passenger is in critical condition.
The condition of three more people is assessed as serious. Four received moderate injuries.
Five medical teams were deployed to quickly help the victims. In addition, a medical helicopter was requested.
The exact cause of the incident is being established. The regional prosecutor's office is monitoring the progress of the work. A procedural decision will be made based on the results of the investigation.
