The suspect was arrested at the request of the investigative authorities.
The Kirov region police reported this on their Telegram channel.
The Yaransky District Court agreed with the investigators' request and remanded the 37-year-old man in custody for a period of 2 months.
He is charged with violating traffic rules, which resulted in the death of two people.
Circumstances of the case
According to investigators, the fatal incident occurred in the village of Arbazh on September 28.
The driver of the VAZ-2110 was driving under the influence of alcohol and hit three people who were walking along the side of the road.
Two women were seriously injured and later died. The man who was in the company of the women, as well as the driver himself, were injured in the incident.
Earlier, the Governor of the Kirov Region, Alexander Sokolov, wrote on his Telegram channel that the accused's victims were local officials.
According to Sokolov, the first victim was Galina Makina, who was the chairperson of the Arbazhsky Municipal District Duma. The second victim was the head of one of the local municipal enterprises, Natalya Tarbeeva.
