Bishimbaev, convicted of murdering former minister's wife, was not in prison

Former Minister of Economy of Kazakhstan Kuandyk Bishimbayev, who was sentenced to 24 years, was not in the penal colony.

Convicted Bishimbaev was taken to a penal colony located in the village of Arshaly, but he was not there.

Journalists contacted the Committee of the Criminal-Executive System of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan several times to conduct an interview with Bishimbayev, but each time they were refused, the AIRAN TV channel reports on YouTube.

The lawyer also did not confirm the information about Bishimbaev being in the colony.

Law enforcement agencies in Kazakhstan have not officially confirmed the whereabouts of the former Minister of Economy following the verdict.

The TV channel’s documentary states that journalists’ requests to interview Bishimbayev and film on the territory of the colony were denied.

In May, a court sentenced the former Minister of Economy of Kazakhstan to 24 years in prison for the murder of his wife.

He must also pay the state legal costs and compensation to the victims.
