An incident occurred in Thailand, the victim of which was a 58-year-old tourist from Russia.
The details were reported on Sunday, December 22, by the Russian Consul General in Phuket Province, Yegor Ivanov.
The 25-year-old Austrian citizen was riding a jet ski near the popular Karon Beach, TASS reports.
The reckless driver was so carried away by his driving that he did not notice a man swimming in the sea and ran over him.
The Austrian was racing at full speed. The tourist died at the scene.
The body was discovered by a local fisherman, which is where the investigation began.
Now law enforcement officers are establishing all the circumstances of the incident. The culprit of the accident has been arrested.
Consul General Ivanov said that the police are informing the diplomatic mission about the progress of the work.
“We are in contact with Thai law enforcement agencies and the relatives of the deceased,” Ivanov said.
Local media write that the initial version put forward was that he drowned.
But a witness and video footage refuted this assumption.
Police have obtained video footage of the moment the jet ski hit the deceased tourist.
The Austrian did not stop after hitting the man, but continued towards the beach and then fled the scene.
Police arrested him a few days after the accident when the Austrian was heading to Phi Phi Island.
The person responsible for the accident faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to 200 thousand baht (592 thousand rubles).
