A tragedy happened to a tourist from Germany who decided to vacation in the Canary Islands.
The incident occurred 500 km south of the coast of Gran Canaria, TASS reports.
Rescuers received a distress signal from a catamaran. The vessel was requesting medical evacuation after a shark attack.
The victim of the attack was a 30-year-old German citizen. The shark dragged her under the water, bit off her leg, but the woman was pulled onto the ship.
A Spanish Air Force helicopter was scrambled to evacuate her. She was taken to the nearest hospital, but they were unable to help the German woman.
The woman died during the flight. Doctors confirmed the death of the tourist.
