A 17th-century cello that was stolen almost 30 years ago has returned to Russia.

Police have discovered a unique instrument in Italy.

The details of this story were commented on by the representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Irina Volk in her Telegram channel.

The cello was handed over to Russian law enforcement officials in Florence.

Volk explained that the musical instrument created by Giovanni Battista Rogeri was part of the Russian state collection of musical instruments.

She also said that the cello could have been secretly taken abroad.

Russia has entered information about the theft of cultural property into the Interpol database.

In 2018, the instrument was discovered and removed from auction in France.

During the investigation it was discovered that the relic had been transported to Italy.

At the request of the Russian side, after an expert examination, the relic was returned to Russia.

Volk concluded that now, after restoration, the cello will become part of the state collection.
