8-year-old son of Russian tourists tragically dies in Abkhazia

A family from Nizhny Novgorod suffered a heavy loss while on holiday in Abkhazia.

The tragedy occurred on the territory of the Ritsinsky National Park, as reported by its director.

The Russians were traveling with their 8-year-old son through the park in their car, TASS reports.

They decided to stop in one of the places where parking of excursion vehicles is prohibited.

The tourists wanted to take photos on a large rock. But the child slipped and fell off the cliff (about 40 m high) into the water.

Park employees came to the rescue. But they were unable to save the boy. The young Russian died in an accident on the park grounds.

The park administration announced that it would bear all the costs of transporting the body of the deceased to Nizhny Novgorod and would organize this process.

The parents are experiencing severe stress; psychologists from the Republican Hospital are working with them, the park director reported.

The local prosecutor's office initiated an investigation into the incident. Witnesses were questioned, including park employees.
