In the US, doctors amputated both arms and legs of a 14-year-old boy.

This had to be done to save his life.

Matias Uribe from Tennessee had cold or flu-like symptoms. But his condition became critical, the Mirror reports.

The parents rushed their son to the hospital. Doctors diagnosed him with pneumonia and streptococcal toxic shock syndrome.

This caused cardiac arrest and the need to be connected to a ventilator.

This, in turn, caused a disruption of the blood supply to the limbs and tissue necrosis.

The family had to make a difficult decision. They agreed to amputate all four of the boy's limbs.

The parents hope that their son will be able to run and play the piano again with the help of prosthetics.

Now they are glad that he is alive and has the opportunity to return to a normal life.
