A UK woman thought she had pulled a muscle while giving her daughter food, but continued pain forced her to seek medical attention.
At first, the hospital said it was a torn ligament, but she insisted on further treatment.
The examination revealed that the mother of three children had stage 4 melanoma, People reported.
Based on the results of her treatment, doctors gave her a "50/50 chance" of survival.
The woman said she had never had any growths or moles on her skin. She believed she had pulled a muscle, which is why the swelling on her shoulder had not gone away for a long time.
However, it became quite obvious that there was a dangerous tumor on her shoulder when the woman was unable to carry a bag or put on a bra.
Doctors said that 10 years ago, with such a diagnosis, she would have lived only 6-7 months.
The prognosis has improved now, but it is still alarming: “Her chances are 50-50.”
