An American soldier got into trouble because of a photograph.

The commander of the destroyer John McCain, Cameron Yaste, lost his position after a funny incident.

A photo appeared on the US Navy's social media page showing Yaste aboard a destroyer, holding a rifle with a telescopic sight.

Attentive users noticed that the sight was mounted backwards. This became a reason for jokes and a wave of criticism, writes Newsweek .

"Even Hollywood doesn't make mistakes like that. We seem doomed," quipped one commenter.

A scandal erupted, resulting in Yaste being removed from his post. This information was confirmed by the American military department.

They noted that the officer was relieved of his post due to doubts about his ability to command a vessel with guided missiles.

At the time, the destroyer John McCain was tasked with protecting shipping lanes in the Gulf of Oman, where the Houthis continue to bomb ships linked to Israel.
