On Monday, November 11, an American airline plane attempted to land in the city of Port-au-Prince, the Miami Herald reports.
As the plane was approaching for landing, fire was opened on it. At least one passenger was injured, grazed by a bullet.
The airliner was urgently diverted to the Dominican Republic. There it landed safely. Medics provided assistance to the victim, and mechanics inspected the plane.
At the same time, the Haitian airport administration has suspended flights. It is still being determined who was behind the shooting of the American plane.
It is noted that since 2021, Haiti has been experiencing a serious security crisis.
Most of the country was taken under control by criminal groups.
Local law enforcement officials are trying to bring the situation under control with the support of an international mission led by Kenya.
