A large-scale exchange of prisoners held in prisons in 7 countries took place in the capital of Turkey.
Details were reported on Thursday, August 1, by Turkish media, citing the republic’s national intelligence service.
TRT Haber reported that the largest prisoner exchange in recent years took place in Ankara.
The deal took place at the airport of the Turkish capital. It involved 26 prisoners. They were brought to Turkey from Russia, Belarus, the USA, Germany, Poland, Slovenia, and Norway.
The Turkish side, represented by intelligence, acted as an intermediary. It organized the process and monitored the progress of the deal.
The TV channel reports that 10 people, including two minors, will go to Russia. 13 will fly to Germany, and three to the United States.
According to media reports, the American side returned journalist Evan Gershkovich and former Marine Paul Whelan.
The Kremlin said it would promptly comment on the results of the deal that took place in Ankara. So far, Russian officials have not commented on this matter.
