The oldest man in the world has died

The woman who held the title of the oldest person in the world has died in Spain.

At the time of her death, Maria Brañas Morera was 117 years and 168 days old.

The woman's relatives reported on social media that she died peacefully in her sleep on August 19 at the age of 118.

Maria's relatives said that the long-lived woman had a premonition of her imminent death, which she warned about several days before.

The woman held the status of the oldest person in the world since January 2023.

Maria was born on March 4, 1907, in San Francisco, but at the age of 8 she moved with her family from the United States to Spain, where she lived for the remaining 109 years.

She witnessed many events: the Spanish flu pandemic, the civil conflict in Spain, world wars.

The woman gave birth to three children and became a widow in 1976, outliving one of her children.

After the death of the Spaniard, the championship went to 116-year-old resident of Japan Tomiko Itooka. She was born on May 23, 1908 in the city of Osaka.
