Russian tourists injured in canyon rockfall in Turkey

Russians were injured during an excursion to the longest and deepest canyon in Turkey.

The incident occurred in the province of Mugla (southwest Turkey).

The incident occurred in the Saklikent Canyon on Friday, August 9, local publication Muğla Gazetesi writes.

A rockfall occurred here, covering a group of tourists. Two Russians were reportedly injured.

Emergency services were called to the scene. Mugla firefighters also arrived. The Russians were rescued and handed over to doctors.

Saklikent is considered the longest and deepest canyon in Turkey and the second in Europe. It is home to a national park that opened in 1996.

The length of the canyon reaches 18 km, and the height in different areas is 1 km. The area is more than 12 thousand hectares. The name is translated from Turkish as "hidden city".

This place is popular among tourists who come from all over the world to admire the local beauty. The canyon is located 50 km from the city of Fethiye.
