Russian arrested in Warsaw for financial fraud at US request

A Russian citizen accused of financial fraud was detained in Warsaw.

The Central Bureau of Investigation complied with the US extradition request.

The former head of a Russian cryptocurrency exchange, from which $450 million disappeared, was arrested in the Volya district. This was reported by RMF24 .

The services also announced the arrest of two people who were wanted by Polish and Czech law enforcement agencies.

According to the representative of the Central Bank of Russia, Krzysztof Wrzeszcznowski, the Russians are suspected of numerous frauds.

He also explained that the detainee was suspected of money transfers and money laundering in connection with the management of one of the largest cryptocurrency exchanges.

The Russian was tracked down and brought to justice based on a decision by the Warsaw prosecutor's office.

The man was detained in an apartment in Warsaw's Wola district.

The request for extradition of the Russian citizen was previously filed by the US Department of Justice. For numerous offenses in the US, he could be sentenced to 20 years in prison.
