Ambassador Anatoly Antonov spoke about Russians who are in American prisons.
The head of the diplomatic mission in Washington reported that 62 Russian citizens are serving prison terms in the United States.
Antonov stated that the issue concerns Russians who were “kidnapped in third countries” by American authorities and brought to the territory of the United States, TASS reports.
The ambassador emphasized that Washington is putting pressure on Russian citizens, demanding that they admit guilt and cooperate with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
In exchange, the American authorities promise the Russians a more lenient sentence.
Antonov reported this information shortly after Russia and Western countries concluded a major deal to exchange prisoners.
The Russian Federation was able to return 8 people to their homeland. However, it was noted that there are still “dozens of Russians” in American prisons.
Moscow assured that work aimed at their release and return to the Russian Federation will continue.
