An Ontario child died of rabies after a bat was found in his bedroom.
The unnamed child was taken to hospital in early September.
He woke up to find a bat in his room, the British publication Metro reports.
However, the parents did not notice any bite marks and did not immediately seek medical help.
The child was taken to hospital but later died.
Dr Malcolm Lock stressed it was vital that anyone attacked by bats sought help immediately.
He added that treatment should begin as soon as possible.
The doctor explained that rabies can appear after bites several weeks or even months.
According to Health Canada, cases of rabies in humans are extremely rare in the country.
