Car found in Georgia pond may be linked to disappearance of wealthy Scarsdale couple.
The incident, which took place more than 40 years ago, sparked one of the largest manhunts in state history, involving the FBI.
Spouses Charles and Catherine Romer lived in an upscale Westchester area for most of the year and vacationed in Florida in the winter.
In April 1980, on their way home from the south, they suddenly disappeared, leaving their belongings at the hotel.
A few days before the tragedy, Romer called his son to tell him about his travel plans. Also, Catherine Romer was wearing jewelry worth between $60,000 and $80,000 at the time of her disappearance.
Glynn County police recently reported that divers found a car in a pond that may have belonged to the missing millionaires.
The pond is currently being drained so that police can continue their work.
Finding the car could help investigators solve a disappearance that has remained unsolved for more than 40 years.
