A recording of a conversation between the crew of a DHL plane and air traffic controllers shortly before the crash has been released.
The pilots' last words before the tragedy were revealed by Lithuanian media.
Before the crash, the pilots of the Boeing 737 asked air traffic controllers about the weather and whether they needed to activate the instrument landing system (ILS) due to poor visibility.
On the ground, the crew was told that the airport was equipped with an ILS system.
The pilots were then allowed to descend to 1,200 m. Then they were given permission to descend to 800 m. “Okay, eight hundred meters,” the pilot replied. These were his last words.
At the flight center, the crew was warned that there were 6.5 km left to the control tower and were informed of a wind of 15 knots.
Permission to land was also received, but then contact was soon lost.
