Exceeded levels of cesium-137 were recorded on the Norwegian-Russian border, the Barents Observer writes.
The alarm was raised due to readings from radiation monitoring stations in Viksjöfjell and Svanhovd.
Cesium-137 levels were higher than normal here from September 9 to 12, the department said.
The department stated that there is no threat to people and the environment, but specialists will conduct additional research in the near future.

The source of the radiation is believed to be the HBWR nuclear research reactor in Halden, which has leaked radioactive isotopes in the past.
