Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz has officially confirmed the elimination of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar.
He called the IDF's operation a great achievement and a victory for the entire free world.
The Israel Defense Forces reported the possible elimination of Sinwar on Thursday, October 17, The Times of Israel writes.
Sinwar took over the group's politburo after the death of his predecessor, Ismail Haniyeh.
The IDF said it had killed three militants in the Gaza Strip, including the head of Hamas' political bureau.
The Israeli military had no information that Sinwar was in the building that was being targeted.
After the attack, the military found the body of a man inside the building who looked like Sinwar.
To ensure the authenticity, the body was identified using DNA testing.
