The leader of the Greek Orthodox Church has spoken out about the scandalous opening ceremony of the Olympics in Paris.
Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Ieronymos said the event, which took place in the French capital last Friday, was worthy of contempt.
The show, which was organized by the organizers of the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, is being actively discussed in the press and social networks.
Opinions differ. The conservative part of society condemned what was shown to viewers with the permission of the French authorities.
“All of this is worthy of absolute contempt,” RIA Novosti quotes Ieronim as saying.
The head of the EOC limited himself to this assessment of the past event.
The Greek press also called this ceremony a sign of the “collapse of civilization and Christian culture in Western Europe.”
The top officials of France, including the mayor of Paris, believe that everything was done at the highest level.
The director of the opening ceremony of the Games, Thierry Reboul, apologised to those who were offended or insulted by the event.
But the functionary stressed that he does not intend to justify himself to anyone. According to him, 87% of the French liked the ceremony.
