Ghana calls for people to stop kissing because of monkeypox

Ghana's health service is urging the public to refrain from kissing and intimate relations in a bid to combat the spread of monkeypox in the country.

Doctors warn that the disease can be transmitted through close physical contact.

These recommendations appeared after the service recorded in the western-northern region of the country.

There are 230 suspected cases of the disease, known as mpox, reported in 88 counties in Ghana.

The health service calls on the population to be vigilant and insists on the use of preventive measures.

Doctors advise anyone with symptoms similar to monkeypox to seek medical attention immediately.

Ghana's Director of Public Health Franklin Asiedu-Bekoe advised avoiding contact with patients' clothing.

He stressed that the symptoms of mpox are rashes and boils on the body.

Asiedu-Bekoe stressed that the risk of infection is higher through direct contact with the body.
