Finnish authorities are planning to consider the issue of creating special zones near the border with the Russian Federation.

Officials in the neighboring country have drawn attention to economic problems in regions bordering Russia.

Several eastern regions of Finland suffered due to the closure of the border and the lack of tourists from Russia, TASS reports.

The solution to the problem could be the creation of special economic zones (SEZ).

The idea of the SEZ is still at the development stage.

The list of measures includes tax breaks and other forms of assistance at the regional level.

Living conditions in border areas are planned to be improved by building wind power plants. The authorities also intend to improve the quality of broadband communications.

The SEZ idea will be discussed until November, and the project will be implemented in 2025–2027.

Earlier it became known that more than half of the residents of Finland do not believe in an improvement in relations with Russia in the coming years.

At the same time, they acknowledge that the eastern regions suffered economically from the severing of ties with Russia.
