The prosecutor's office resorted to trickery to postpone the hearings in the corruption case.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen was due to appear in court to testify. The politician is suspected of having ties to the pharmaceutical company Pfizer.

The European Union is investigating a corruption case related to the purchase of coronavirus vaccines, TASS reports.

The sum in question is more than 35 billion euros. Pfizer and von der Leyen are involved in this case.

A court hearing was supposed to take place, but the prosecutor's office used a trump card that it pulled out at the last moment and sabotaged the process.

"The EU Public Prosecutor's Office has filed an appeal to the courts of the Belgian city of Liege regarding the immunity of the head of the EC," said the initiator of the lawsuit, Frederic Baldan.

He stressed that the authority hid its intentions until the very end and did everything to delay the process.

The prosecutor's office managed to do this. The hearings were postponed for another month - until January 6, 2025.

Baldan said von der Leyen was not entitled to immunity from prosecution because she had exceeded her powers.
