Collapsed concrete canopy crushes passengers to death at Serbian train station

The tragedy occurred at a railway station in the Serbian city of Novi Sad.

The details were announced during a briefing by the head of the Republic's Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ivica Dacic, the press service of the department reports.

A concrete canopy suddenly collapsed at a train station in a Serbian city. The heavy structure crushed more than 10 people.

Rescuers pulled the bodies of eight passengers from the rubble. Another four received injuries of varying severity, Dacic reported.

One of the victims suffered a serious leg injury. Doctors will have to amputate it.

80 rescuers continue to work at the scene. Two more people remain under the rubble.

The local blood transfusion center has started looking for donors. Some of the victims need blood transfusions.

The city of Novi Sad is the second largest city in Serbia. It is considered the financial and industrial center of the Serbian economy.
