Two girls under 30 died as a result of Oropouche fever.
According to the Brazilian Ministry of Health, they experienced symptoms similar to a severe form of dengue fever.
In Brazil, two girls have died, becoming the first victims of the infection, AFP reports.
Since the beginning of the year, more than seven thousand cases of Oropouche fever have been detected in the country.
The department explained that these are the first registered victims of the disease, which is transmitted through infected mosquitoes.
The Ministry of Health explained that the girls who died were under 30 years old. Their illness was complicated.
WHO warned in October 2020 about the first cases of the virus in French Guiana.
In early June 2024, Oropouche fever was detected in nine provinces of Cuba.
One possible death from the fever is currently under investigation in the southern state of Santa Catarina.
