An incident that occurred during a televised debate in Brazil has come to light.
A candidate for mayor of Sao Paulo was seriously injured when his opponent threw a chair at him.
The incident was reported by the Brazilian portal G1 .
It is noted that the televised debate was organized by the TV Cultura channel. José Luis Datena, candidate of the Social Democratic Party, and Pablo Marsalà, who is a representative of the right-wing Workers' Renewal Party, were invited to participate.
During the debate, Marsal was given the right to ask his opponent a question. He took his chance and asked when Datena would withdraw his candidacy from the race and “stop clowning around.”
In response to these words, the opponent grabbed a chair and brought it down on Marsala.
It is noted that after the incident the broadcast was immediately interrupted.
Marsala was hospitalized with a serious injury, and all other campaign events of the candidate for the post of mayor of Brazil's largest city were cancelled. According to preliminary information, he may have a broken rib.
