The head of European Union diplomacy, Josep Borrell, said that Europe must begin to defend itself without looking back at the United States.
The EU should break its habit of monitoring presidential elections in the United States, the official said.
Borrell explained: “Every time there are elections in the United States, we ask ourselves whether Washington will protect us,” as reported by TASS .
According to the diplomat, this approach to the situation is extremely wrong.
A Call for Change
Borrell announced this information during his speech in New York at a seminar of the Council on Foreign Relations.
The diplomat's speech was broadcast by the press service of the European Commission.
The official emphasized that today Europe must be more focused on strengthening its own security.
The head of European diplomacy added: “We cannot constantly ask ourselves whether the Americans will continue to help us.”
